A favourite quote for today.

Not sure why this is in my head today, but it is. It's one of my favourite George Eliot quotes, from Middlemarch. It appears also in the Liberal Judaism siddur (prayerbook) as an option for before we say Kaddish (prayers for the dead).

"...the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half-owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."
